About Third District

The Third District is a diverse district with both a strong rural presence represented by the agricultural community, and a strong metropolitan region represented by the counties of Midland, Bay, Saginaw, Genesee, Lapeer and St. Clair.

The district has 14 counties covering more than 8,900 square miles with a total population of over 1.3 million people.  The district has five interstate/U.S. routes, and 23 state routes.  There are 460 active status carriers and an additional 187 carriers which have been placed in revoked status (as of 1/1/2019) which are located in the Third District.

Traffic:  
CMV transportation in the district consists primarily of automotive manufacturing, aggregates, agriculture, and general freight; including both local, interstate, and international traffic.  The top five high profile routes in the district along with the most recent MDOT commercial annual average daily traffic (CAADT) counts for CY2017, are provided in Table 1.
